Obituary of Dorothy D. Maminski

Dorothy Maminski - 4/13/1917 to 11/01/2021 at the age of 104. Dorothy was born as the middle child to the family of five. She had an older sister Mary and an older brother Stanley and a younger sister Catherine and a brother Joseph who are all deceased. She was a devout Catholic and at one point was the oldest living congregant of Saint Laurentius Church at Memphis and Berks Streets in Philadelphia. She was an active member and past president of the Ladies Guild and also in the church choir. As an accomplished seamstress she repaired and created many of the altar cloths and also sewed the priests garments. Additionally she also sewed wedding dresses and created brides wedding bags for church members and friends. At the age of 97 in May of 1997 she was featured in a public interest TV article by Ukee Washington as the pillow case lady of Philadelphia for creating in excess of 60 dresses for children that went to the orphanages for the poor in Mexico. She was an independant woman long before the term was in wide use having left a troubled marriage in 1950 to raise three boys as a single mom while holding down a full time job. She had a wonderful and full life and leaves behind many friends and relatives who all referred to her as Aunt Dorothy. She is predeceased by her sons Joseph and Leonard and survived by her son Stanley and his wife Virginia of Poinciana, Florida. Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing Saturday Nov. 6th 9:30 AM at St. Jerome Church 8100 Colfax St. Philadelphia PA 19136. Funeral Mass 10:30 AM. Interment Resurrection Cemetery.
