Obituary of Harry T. Smith

S M I T H Harry T. on August 11, 2021. Loving father of Patrick(Noreen),Lindsay Casey(Sean),Ryan(Erin Kate),Brynn, Sean and Shannon. Pop Pop of Paydon Casey, Morgan, Fiona and Eoin. Brother of Elizabeth Shaffer(Al),Lynn Smith, Kathleen Morovich (Jason)and the late Mary Coleman. Also survived by many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Harry grew up in Juniata. He was the only boy with four sisters. If that wasn’t bad enough, he was right in the middle; Mary, Elizabeth, Harry, Lynn, and Kathleen. Harry attended grade school at Holy Innocents and went to North Catholic High School (where he finally wasn’t with all girls). He played soccer and formed a bond with his closest friends who were by his side till the very end. Harry was always a hard worker right out of high school. He worked for the Philadelphia School District then went into the Sprinkler Fitters Union Local 692. Harry was married in 1986 and didn’t want to let down his Irish Catholic heritage. Harry had 6 children, Patrick, Lindsay, Ryan, Brynn, Sean, and Shannon. When Harry wasn’t working, he could be found on the soccer field coaching one of his children. He coached at Penn Academy and Parkwood for years. Harry was a proud North Catholic alumni. On North weekends in Wildwood he could be seen running by with T-shirts in hand or 50/50’s. Harry was put on vitas care three days before Norphans weekend and he was more worried he wasn’t there to help them instead of what he was going through. He was a devout Catholic who still went to Latin Mass every week. To know Harry was to love him. If you needed him, he was there! He would show up even if you didn’t ask him. He was blunt, sometimes too blunt, but it was what you had to love about him. He was smart with his bluntness. When you grow up with 4 sisters you learn fast if a girl asks “How does this look?” the answer is always “Good!” But the next day he would let you know in a Harry way by saying, “Where did you get those pants? You shouldn’t shop there any more.” Harry had a great sense of humor all the way to the end. When you walked in and seen him and weren’t sure what to say, he would crack a joke just to make everyone else feel better. Harry’s faith was very strong. If you weren’t Catholic….well chances are he prayed for your soul! Haha One of a kind great guy! Harry would not want anyone to cry over him. Laugh and share your favorite stories about him. In his words…"Stop crying! Rub some dirt on it and get back in the game." Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing Thursday Evening August 19th from 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM at the Reilly Rakowski Funeral Home 2632-34 E. Allegheny Ave. Phila., PA 19134 and August 20th Friday Morning 9:00 AM - 10:30 AM at Holy Innocents Church 1337 E. Hunting Park Ave. Phila., PA 19124. Funeral Mass 10:30 AM.
