Obituary of Rosellen R. Tomczak

Tomczak, Rosellen (nee Meehan), of Philadelphia, PA passed away peacefully on February 25th, 2021 after a long and heroic battle with cancer. Known as Rose, Rosie, or Onion by those who knew and loved her, Rosellen was born on October 13, 1952 at Northeastern Hospital in the Port Richmond section of Philadelphia. She was the beloved daughter of the late Clement T. and Helen (nee McManus) Meehan. Rosellen was predeceased by her loving husband of over 30 years Joseph “Joe” Tomczak, as well as her brothers Clement T. (Clem) Meehan Jr. and Francis X. (Fred) Meehan. She is survived by her siblings James P. Meehan (Jean), Helene Gutgesell (Edward), Anne Bracchi (Peter), Joseph Meehan, many nieces and nephews, cousins, and life-long friends. Rosellen spent the majority of her career working in her neighborhood of Port Richmond. She started her career at Northeastern Hospital, then spent the next 30 years as the Office Manager of an Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) practice affiliated with the hospital. Upon her retirement, Rosellen worked part-time for the Media Members Federal Credit Union which provided financial services to the employees of the Philadelphia Inquirer and the University of Pennsylvania. After many years working in the health care field, she thoroughly enjoyed working at the Inquirer for the opportunity to meet all the interesting people she had the privilege of serving who were employed in the newspaper industry. In her personal life, Rosellen was most happy spending time with her family, particularly with all her nieces and nephews/great-nieces and nephews who idolized her and of whom she found great joy in spoiling. She will be greatly missed, not only by her family, but by all the friends she made over the years. A visitation will take place Monday April 26th 10:00 AM at Nativity BVM Church, 2535 E. Allegheny Avenue, Phila. PA 19134. Funeral Mass 11:00 AM. Burial services will be private at the request of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the National Brain Tumor Society, 56 Chapel Street, Suite 200, Newton MA, 02458 or to the Vietnam Veterans Fund, 8719 Colsville Road, Suite 100, Silver Spring MD, 20910.
